What denomination is the First Congregational Church?
We are protestant and are members of the United Church of Christ. Each church is autonomous. We welcome ALL people to worship with us.
Do you have a traditional or contemporary worship service?
Our services are very traditional: prayers, scripture, sermon and hymns.
How long is Sunday service?
The service usually lasts an hour unless there is a baptism or some other special service.
How much parking is there?
There is parking for 48+ cars. On Sundays you may also park at the Quality Thrift Shop were there is another 10 spots.
How many people can you seat?
We can seat approximately 200 when we use the balcony.
Where and when is church school held?
Church School is held in the Parish House. The first Sunday of the month the children will go directly to church school and then come back to church for communion. The rest of the month they will begin in worship and leave for church school together during the singing of the second hymn.
Is there child care for infants and toddlers?
Yes, we do have a nursery and they would go over to the Parish House at the same time as the church school class.
Can I have my child baptized even if I don’t attend church?
We welcome anyone who wants to have their child baptized. Baptisms are held during our Sunday worship at the convenience of the family.
When and how is communion done?
Communion is held on the first Sunday in the month. All worshippers (including children) are invited to participate in the observance of the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The Deacons will serve you in your seat. We hold the bread and cup until all have been served. We will partake of the elements together. There are gluten free crackers for those who are gluten sensitive.
Do I have to “dress up?”
Please come wearing something that you are comfortable in. God does not care what you wear.
What does the church believe to be imperative?
We believe in giving to those in need. Through our Thrift Shop, our Outreach Budget and other special offerings, we give away over $100,000 per year to many worthy non-profit organizations.
